Step 1 – Use The Windows Vista “Updates Readiness” Tool
The Windows Vista Updates Readiness Tool helps to deal with problems that could cause updates to malfunction and not install properly. This tool is extremely beneficial to us in this situation, as it will help us pin-point the problem that’s stopping the update from occuring and will help you fix the issue. To use the Readiness tool, follow these steps:
- Click Start
- Type “system” in the Start Search box
- From the Programs list select System.
- “32 bit operating system” or “64 bit operating system” will be shown as system type under system.
- Once you know your Vista version you can download the System Readiness tool for either your 32 or 64 bit system.
- Once the download is complete restart your computer and try install the service package.
Step 2 – Disable Unwanted Programs And Firewalls
Programs that are running will often clash with the installation files on Vista, causing the error you’re seeing now. This problem is a major issue for computers which continually have 100’s of different programs open.
