- Insert the XP installation CD into your computer
- Boot from the CD-ROM
- Press “R” on the keyboard (boots into the “recovery console”)
- Type the following: “copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe”
- Press Enter
- Restart Windows
- Press WINDOWS KEY + R
- Type regedit & press Enter
- Locate the following key in the registry at the following location-
- Make a modification to the entry C:\WINDOWS\System32\wsaupdater.exe to:
- See if the error shows again
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
C:\WINDOWS\System32\userinit.exe.
- Press Enter
- Restart your system
Step 2 – Copy The LogonUI.exe File To Your PC
The next step is to copy a working version of the LogonUI.exe file from the Windows installation CD to your hard drive. This can be done by following these steps:
- Put the XP installation CD into your system
- Press the WINDOWS KEY + R on your keyboard
- Type “expand D:\i386\logonui.ex_ %windir%\system32\logonui.exe”
