Restart Your PC In Safe Mode
- Restart your system
- Before Windows loads, press F8 continuously
- On the black screen that appears, select “Safe Mode”
- Wait for Safe Mode to load up
Change The Folder Names
- Load up “My Computer”
- Browse to C:\Windows
- Locate the “Software Distribution” folder
- Right-click and select “Rename” to rename the folder
- Rename the folder to “SOFTWAREDISTRIBUTIONBACKUP”
- Locate the “Catroot2” folder
- Right-click and select “Rename” to rename the folder
- Rename the folder to “CATROOT2BACKUP”
- Restart your PC normally
- Try Windows Update again
