How To Fix “Setup was unable to find the MSI package” Errors
“Setup was unable to find the MSI package” is a very common error on Windows computers. It normally shows when you try and install an application and halts the installation, preventing your computer from being able to run properly. This error normally shows if you are using a proxy server to access the Internet. Here’s what you need to do to fix it..,
What Causes The “Setup was unable to find the MSI package” Error?
This error is typically caused by your computer being unable to read the Internet download locations that many installer programs use to help keep your software up to date. If this message is showing, it just means that you need to perform a simple method to work-around the issue on your PC.
Steps To Fix The MSI Package Error
Step 1 – Check The Proxy Settings
- First open Internet Explorer.
- On the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
- Select Connections.
- On this tab, select the LAN Settings button to check your Internet Connections settings.
- If the “Use proxy server for this connection” check box is selected it implies that you are trying to install your software from behind a proxy server.
This step basically shows you if your computer is trying to access the Internet from behind a proxy and means that you need to work around this solution in order to get the installer to work.
Step 2 – Find Another Internet Connection
If you’re using a proxy, you may not have the choice to find another Internet connection. However, if you go to your local library or another place that has a connection, you should be able to get the installer working. You basically need to find a connection that does not connect to the Internet through a proxy.
When you find another connection, you should follow these steps:
- First open Internet Explorer.
- On the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
- Select Connections.
- On this tab, select the LAN Settings button to check your Internet Connections settings.
- Clear the “Use proxy server for this connection” check box
- Select Automatically Detect Settings checkbox
This will basically change your Internet settings to automatically detect whether your connection goes through a proxy or not. And if you’re able to find another Internet connection, it’s a great way to get the error fixed.
Step 3 – Download The Installer From The Internet
If you need to install the program urgently, you should try and download the installer in its entirety from the Internet. Many companies offer a choice between “web installers” and “complete installers“. You need to get the complete installation file so that Windows does not have any to download anything else from the Internet, allowing your computer to run smoother and without the errors.
Highly Recommended – Clean Out The Registry
– Download This Registry Cleaner
One of the biggest causes of issues on Windows is down to the “registry” and how many computers are unable to use the settings they want from it. The registry is basically a central database which stores the settings and options that Windows needs to run. It’s also where a lot of your Internet & installation settings are kept… and unfortunately, a lot of these settings become damaged and corrupted and cause all sorts of problems for Windows. To fix this issue, you should try using a ‘registry cleaner’ to scan through the registry database and fix any of the problems that could be inside it.
