Steps To Repair The 0x00000051 Error
On a Windows XP system, when you attempt to start configuration manager, you may encounter a blue screen with error message 0x00000051. This can occur if the configuration manager cannot hive the data properly. Configuration manager is used to assess and update servers and client computers across a network. It is one of the most widely used pieces of network management software in the world.
What Causes The 0x00000051 Error?
If you encounter this error, it may appear on a blue screen as:
STOP 0x00000051 (0x0000000c, 0xc0000005, 0x????????, 0x????????)
Each ? denotes a variable, so could be any number.
This particular problem occurs when the configuration manager cannot “hive” the data properly. To “hive” data means to store data in a structure applicable to the registry. Step 1 – Update Windows
Microsoft have released a hotfix for Windows XP that deals with this exact problem. It is available from here. This hotfix is intended for use with this particular problem, so if you are experiencing a similar but unrelated problem, it will not fix it.
